Donuts and Dead People

Donuts and Dead PeopleKrispy Kreme & Historic Oakwood Cemetery

November 12 @1pm

Don’t let the photo mislead you! It’s only meant to grab your attention. (Does that count as false advertising? Perhaps a bait and switch? Shame on me!) We did not dress up as the Zombies and go eat donuts, however that is an awesome idea & I totally want to do that next time!

What we did do was go the to Krispy Kreme at 549 N. Person Street and then go on a walk through of the Historic Oakwood Cemetery located at 701 Oakwood Ave.

I really like Krispy Kreme donuts. I don’t think there’s really a comparison in the donut world to KK donuts. I got a dozen assorted and somehow managed to just eat four of them. I think it’s because everyone was watching and I didn’t want to seem like a pig. But I ate the rest when I got home anyway and then enjoyed a nice little sugar coma. You can “Like” Krispy Kreme on Facebook or join their email list to keep up with their donut of the month and other special offers and promotions.

Historic Oakwood Cemetery was actually very enjoyable. Their website offers a good deal of information and knowing its history will make your visit that much more enjoyable. I am actually more interested in Oakwood Cemetary now than I was before I went. We really couldn’t have asked for better weather. The sun was shining and it was almost 70 degrees. It almost makes up for the last three outdoor activities we had planned that were rained out. If you want to get some information or coordinate a tour or something along those lines, one of the easiest ways is to jump on Twitter and tweet Robin at @HistoricOakwood. I found her to be very quick and informative with her responses. Thanks Robin!

I’ve been in the Historic Oakwood area of Raleigh before and I love that neighborhood. To find out more about that area of town or see what events they have going on check out their website. One of their most popular upcoming events is their 40th Annual Candlelight Tour where you can view 11 historic Victorian homes in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of.

Thanks again to everyone who came out! It’s always good to see new faces at our events. And remember the Explore Raleigh motto; “It’s fun to do stuff with strangers!”
