This Weekend in Raleigh: Aug 23 – Aug 25

Posted on August 21, 2019August 23, 2019

Looks like rain might influence your options this weekend but we have selected a mix of both indoor and outdoor events so take a look and then gather the crew and plan accordingly!

Below you’ll see events we recommend by date and at the bottom of this post you’ll find information on how to join Explore Raleigh and suggest future events for us to recommend to other members!

All Weekend:

Wizard of Oz 3D: 80th Anniv. Event

This classic film has been remastered into an IMAX 3D Experience which means you can enjoy a classic film in a way you’ve never experienced before. Tickets for all shows are only $8 but there are only 6 showings this weekend. Check out the imaxraleigh.org website for showtimes and to purchase tickets online.

DeRay Davis @ Improv Raleigh

Comedian and actor DeRay Davis will be at the Raleigh Improv this weekend for 5 shows. Check out his special on Netflix or Youtube him to get a better idea if you might enjoy his comedy.

Lazy Daze 2019

Lazy Daze is a Cary’s annual arts & crafts festival. In short this event packs over 300 artists, 27 food vendors and 4 stages of entertainment into a weekend of fun in downtown Cary. Again, check the weather before you go… cause ya never know!

Aug 23:

Monster Drawing Rally 2019

The Monster Drawing Rally is in its 4th year and features over 75 artists drawing, sketching & painting live. Finished works are available immediately for $50. The event is only $12 for nonmembers of the museum.

MLB Raleigh: 919 Design Showcase

This is fun opportunity to check out a downtown brewery you might not even know existed. Little City Brewing is hosting MLB Raleigh for an event that celebrates baseball, design & creativity. If you’d like more information about how you can help bring a MLB team to Raleigh you should check out this event, or at least follow MLB Raleigh on Facebook!

Grungefest Presents: Nevermind – A Tribute to Nirvana

Do you like grunge music? Do you like Nirvana? Well if you answered yes to either of those questions here’s a fun night for you! Pro Tip: Tickets are only $8 on Groupon.

Bunch of Jerks Night @ Durham Bulls Athletic Park

Aren’t partnerships fun? Here we have a partnership between the Durham Bulls and the Carolina Hurricanes. If you follow the Cane’s you know last season they got a bunch of flack for their post game celebrations and were referred to as “a bunch of jerks“… well.. they own it… they win & they have fun winning and their fans love them for it! So this is a special night, where the Bulls will be dressed in black & red to show their support for the Cane’s. So if you’re a Cane’s fan, come show your support for the Bulls!

Aug 24:

Triangle Pop-Up Market @ Transfer Co Food Hall

In the mood for some Food Hall action? Well both of Raleigh’s food halls have special events this weekend Transfer Co is hosting a Triangle Pop-Up Market, it’s kind of like mashing up a bunch of food trucks and Etsy with a southern drawl.

One Year Anniv. Party @ Morgan Street Food Hall

The other big Food Court… I mean Food Hall event is at Morgan Street Food Hall where they’re celebrating their 1 year anniversary. Here you can expect food and drink specials as well as live music and giveaways.

Packapalooza 2019

Packapalooza is an all day (2pm-10pm) festival on Hillsborough Street. It averages about 80,000 attendees, has 100’s of vendors and a bunch of live performances including this years headliner Delta Rae. So if you want to get in the spirit of some Wolfpack Pride… Bring it on down to Hillsborough St!

Silent Disco – 90’s vs Now

The Ritz is hosting a silent disco. For all of you who don’t know what it is, allow me to ‘take you to school’…. A silent disco is this kind of awesome/awkward thing where 2 or more DJ’s duel or at least play different music and the audience listens through headphones and can tune into any DJ they wish. This event seems to be 2 different genre’s of music the 90’s vs Now, so it’s not really a duel, but it allows fans of both 90’s music and today’s hits to ‘jam out’ or enjoy, dance and celebrate their musical interests.

An R-Rated Magic Show

When’s the last time you experienced a good magic show? Was it at your little brothers 6th birthday party? Probably… Well, magician Grant Freeman is performing at Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, in the heart of Downtown Raleigh and his show isn’t aimed at impressing 6 year olds. At this show you can expect tricks, stunts, wisecracks and all sorts of baffoonery… tickets are limited and appear to be selling out fast so get your tickets ASAP: https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/2D00566CC8E74ED2

DJ Jazzy Jeff @ Lincoln Theatre

Remember the good ole days? No? Well they happened… they were smooth, relaxing, easy going, positive, and most importantly meaningful… if you want to experience that again, or maybe again for the 1st time check out DJ Jazzy Jeff at Lincoln Theater this weekend!

Aug 25:

Hair of the Dog @ Boxcar

Join Cause for Paws at Boxcar for a special event featuring vendors, games, raffles, kissing booth & plenty of cute adoptable pups. A portion of bar sales goes to CFP so come out from 11am-2pm, have a few drinks and a lot of fun and support one of Raleigh’s best pet adoption groups.

400 Feet Down @ Rialto

This is an encore presentation to raise awareness about the RDU Quarry deal. You’ve most likely seen yard signs or facebook posts or just been in conversations about it, but many people are upset about it.. should you be upset about it too? Maybe? haha Come watch the video and see if this is something you’re interested in getting involved with. For full details visit: https://umsteadcoalition.org/StopRDUQuarry
